Community Benefits

Sheila Monaghan, FNP At Sonora Regional Medical Center, our passion is health—in all of its forms. Whether you have the flu, are giving birth, battling cancer or have an emergency that could find you fighting for your life, we are deeply committed to putting our team of caring professionals to work for you.

We know the community we serve and understand the region’s family-income diversity. That’s why we offer Project HOPE, a free mobile health clinic. Twice a week, a nurse practitioner is available—free of charge—to provide you and your family with check-ups, physicals and blood pressure checks, just like a visit to your personal physician. Whether you are without a medical plan, have a high deductible, or just need to see a practitioner right away, Project HOPE can give you just that, hope for health care.

Project HOPE is just one of the many ways we provide access to health care to everyone. In 2011 we provided 1,860 free patient visits with Project HOPE. Other ways we’ve helped low-income patients this past year include:

• Provided free sports physicals for 500 students and free dental procedures for 81 Medi-Cal patients

• Raised $69,000 for the Cancer Patient Support Fund and $60,000 for Hospice of the Sierra

• Assisted 173 families with $39,226 from the Chaplains Fund

• Administered over 4,000 low-cost blood draws and free health screenings at the Tuolumne County Health Fair and several other wellness events around the region

• Supported hundreds of community members with services including home, church and hospital visits; phone calls; and blood pressure clinics through the Faith Community Nursing Program

• Donated 13,114 pounds of food to local food banks and 841 blankets, coats and other warm apparel to local organizations

• Gave $28,539 in donations to local schools and organizations

• Coordinated several community education projects including a column in the local newspaper, a new website featuring an extensive health library, monthly health seminars for seniors, quarterly Healthy Living publications, and ongoing classes at the Live Well Be Well Center

As a faith-based, not-for-profit organization, our mission has always been to reach out to the underserved in our community. We continue that tradition today through new and innovative health outreach programs.
