Aquatic Therapy Pool Campaign
Opportunity
Sonora Regional Medical Center, a not-for-profit charity organization, is committed to improving the health of our community. We demonstrate this everyday in a variety of locations throughout Tuolumne and Calaveras County, but there is still so much more to be done.
Patients recovering from stroke, surgery or accidents could benefit from Aquatic Therapy were it available. Currently there is not an Aquatic Therapy program or site in our Mother Lode area.
Sonora Regional Medical Center has recently invested more than $10 million in meeting the growing health care needs of our community by building the Forest Road Health and Wellness Center and the Sonora Regional Imaging Center. We look forward to partnering with our community to create a new service that will meet patient needs. In order to build an Aquatic Therapy Pool we must raise $200,000 through a capital campaign. We need your help.
Aquatic Therapy Pool: Why It's Needed
Imagine that you have had an accident and are in a wheelchair; or you struggle to walk due to arthritis, or are on crutches due to a ruptured tendon, or learning to walk again following a stroke.
Each of these patients requires months of physical therapy, which is a difficult and demanding task. Now imagine that these same patients can complete their therapy faster and safer by doing it in the water. The physical and emotional benefits a patient can receive from an Aquatic Therapy program are immense.
An aquatic therapy program can benefit patients in one or more of the following ways: allows weight-bearing in a graded, progressive manner; improvement of joint stiffness, balance reactions and unwillingness to move: improvement in functional strength and mobility; improvement in aerobic fitness and endurance; reduction in general debilitation; reduction of pain cycle; provides an environment in which upright posture is possible; and provides water jets for deep tissue massage and immersion in a therapeutic water environment.
Based on the following statement made by one of the Medical Center’s therapists who has worked in an aquatics therapy program, you will get a sense of the impact that an aquatics therapy program can have. Dave states “I saw at least one miracle a week on average. I say miracles, in my twenty years of experience in this profession; I have not seen anything close to the dramatic gains the average aqua therapy patient receives. This is an unbelievable situation to witness.”
