New Tree Lighting Event
Sonora Regional Medical Center will celebrate the season a little differently this year. A new event – Festival of Lights will be held on Wednesday, December 8 at the entrance to the hospital’s attached medical office building. Instead of hosting the two, long-standing tree-lighting events - Celebration of Lights at the hospital entrance and Hospices’ Tree of Lights at the Red Church in downtown Sonora, they will now have one event, the Festival of Lights.
The event will be held in a new location at the hospital. Plans are underway to decorate the northeast corner of the Medical Center property at the entrance at Delnero Street.
“We hope to decorate the corner so beautifully, that residents will want to bring their children by the hospital to see the Christmas lights” stated Gail Witzlsteiner, Foundation Executive Director. “We are looking forward to creating a new tradition for families and a display that our employees will be proud of.”
The Festival of Lights will also serve as a way for friends and families to honor loved ones. Lights can be purchased in honor or in memory of special people many of whom may have passed away, as a way to recognize the life-saving work that our physicians provide or as a way to recognize the birth of a new baby. All honorees will be recognized on the Honor Roll that will be displayed at the hospital for the remainder of the month of December.
The Mirth and Glee Carolers will provide entertainment and lead attendees in singing Christmas carols. Holiday refreshments will be served. All are invited to attend.
Funds raised from the sale of the lights will be designated for outreach programs such as Hospice, the Cancer Patient Fund, Project HOPE, Home Care, Chaplain’s Fund or Lifeline. If you are interested in buying a light in memory or in honor of someone, please contact the Foundation at 536-5029.
