January 4, 2012
Groveland, CA

Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes Katherine Newcomb, MD, who has joined Steven Shield, MD, at Groveland Family Medical Center. Dr. Newcomb is board certified in Internal Medicine and specializes in taking care of patients 12 years and older for a wide range of primary care concerns, including those who may have more complicated medical issues.

As an Internal Medicine physician, Dr. Newcomb treats many common conditions and provides annual screenings. She also has a special interest in women’s health. In addition, Dr. Newcomb is designated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Aviation Medical Examiner, examining pilots so that they can obtain their medical certificate as required by the FAA.

In her practice, Dr. Newcomb enjoys helping people understand their health conditions by explaining the disease process and teaching patients incremental steps they can take to be healthier.

Dr. Newcomb was inspired early on by her childhood pediatrician who was a woman. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Stanford University and then went on to Case Western Reserve School of Medicine for her medical degree. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center.

She was in full-time private practice from 1988 to 1999 in Atascadero on California's Central Coast. She then took some time off to raise her child. In 2004 she started a part-time private practice in Groveland.

Dr. Newcomb lives with her family in Groveland. She enjoys spending time with her husband and 13-year-old daughter. She also enjoys hiking, playing the flute, sewing, and caring for the family cats.
