Medical Center Celebrates Breast Health

September 29, 2011
Sonora, CA

Sonora Regional Medical Center will be kicking off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Friday, October 7, with iWalk, an event promoting breast health and offering a chance for the community to honor loved ones affected by breast cancer.

iWalk will begin at noon at the flagpole in front of the Medical Center. Participants are encouraged to wear pink and the first 200 will receive a free t-shirt or water bottle.

The program includes the introduction of Susan Troy, the Medical Center’s new Breast Health Navigator, and speaker Diane Baumhover, Budget Analyst with the Tuolumne County Office of Education and breast cancer survivor.

Following the speakers, participants will be provided pink chalk and invited to write the names of loved ones affected by breast cancer on the Medical Center’s helipad. From the helipad, there will be a one-mile walk around the Medical Center campus to celebrate breast cancer awareness and honor the lives of our loved ones.

PHI Air Medical will be there to hand out giveaways and will also fly over during the event and take photos of the participants and of the helipad covered in pink. Pink refreshments will be served and breast health educational materials will be available.

During the month of October, in addition to iWalk, the Medical Center will be featuring photos of four community members who are also breast cancer survivors treated at the Sonora Regional Cancer Center. These brave women provide hope and inspiration and their photos will be displayed in the Medical Center lobby and will also be found throughout the month in the Union Democrat.

The Medical Center will also be lit up in pink for the entire month to provide a glowing reminder for everyone to have their annual screenings and be active participants in their own breast health.
