Medical Center Launches "Family Fit" Program

March 25, 2010
Sonora, California

Sonora Regional Medical Center is now offering “Family Fit,” a program that focuses on children from 8 to 11 years old who have an unhealthy relationship with food, regardless of their weight. The 6-week program teaches both children and parents healthy eating behaviors and goal setting through fun group-learning activities. The weekly classes include discussions, games, healthy snacks, videos and more. The program also includes a monthly support group meeting.

“Childhood obesity is a serious and growing problem,” says Medical Center dietician Jodie Rodriguez. “We are providing this health and fitness class so that children and parents can learn together and help each other succeed.”

The first session begins on April 7 at the Medical Center’s Live Well, Be Well Center, at 19747 Greenley Road. To attend the classes, children must be referred by a physician. The course fee is $100 and financial aid is available. Class size is limited to 15. For further information, contact Jodie Rodriguez at 536-5046.
