Board-Certified Pediatrician Joining Forest Road Health and Wellness Center

Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes Devanie S. Teel, MD, to the Forest Road Rural Health Clinic. Dr. Teel is a board-certified pediatrician who will join Tony Conte, MD, and Jennifer Neufeld-Trujillo, MD, at the Forest Road Health and Wellness Center Pediatric Clinic.
Dr. Teel grew up in Sonora and is the daughter of Donovan Teel, MD, and his wife Susan. Dr. Teel received her Bachelors of Science in Biology at Pacific Union College in Angwin, Calif., and earned her medical degree at Loma Linda University. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital and stayed on to serve another year as Chief Resident and Assistant Program Director.
Dr. Teel has spent the last five years practicing in Southern California, where her patients included newborns to adolescents. She spent four years with Riverside County Department of Public Health, creating a flourishing pediatric practice at the Indio Family Care Center. “Our focus was on under-insured children, providing general and specialty healthcare for those without access,” says Dr. Teel.
For the last year, Dr. Teel worked with Neighborhood Healthcare in San Diego. The practice encompassed care for children from birth to 16, providing scheduled well care, hospital follow ups and urgent care hours.
Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Teel spent a month in Peru working in a rural clinic. She most remembers seeing the staff make do with what resources they had on hand to help, including washing disposable gloves for reuse. “They were so grateful for every bit of help,” says Dr. Teel. “You can’t help but feel very spoiled for the resources we have here.”
Children’s smiles are Dr. Teel’s favorite aspect to her work. “I love to see their smiles grow and change over time. And when they’re sick, I like being part of the team, with the parents, to help them get better and bring back their smiles,” says Dr. Teel.
Dr. Teel has relocated to Sonora with her husband, James Boyd, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, and their family. While they enjoyed San Diego, Dr. Teel says, “It’s good to be home.” Sonora is where they want to raise their family, which includes three young boys, who love having plenty of space outside to catch frogs and dig in the dirt.
