Cancer Center

Overview

Infusion Cancer: It’s a word that brings about an immediate reaction of fear, uncertainty, and helplessness and for some, hopelessness. We want to help, to bring you hope. We want to help you live.

You are not alone. According to the American Cancer Society, more than one million people get cancer each year. Approximately one out of every two American men and one out of every three American women will have some type of cancer at some point during their lifetime.

Through prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery programs, fewer people are dying from cancer than ever before. Breakthroughs in research and technology mean that more people can beat cancer and go on living their lives with the fullness and joy they have known.

Today, Sonora Regional Medical Center gives you total cancer care, right here in the Sierra Foothills. Our experience, technology, and caring staff is comparable to what you’ll find anywhere in Northern California.

Medical Oncology
Your cancer treatment and care is overseen by board certified medical oncologists. Medical oncology provides comprehensive cancer care and services by coordinating your individual care with other physicians and care providers. Services include inpatient treatment by certified oncology nurses and oversight of your care during hospitalization by a medical oncologist.

Radiation Oncology
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is a powerful cancer-fighting technology. Overseen by a board certified radiation oncologist, this therapy targets cancer cells while limiting radiation to important normal issues. In IMRT, very small beams or beamlets with varying intensities can be aimed at a tumor from many angles. The intensity of each beamlet can be controlled. The radiation dose can be made to bend around important normal tissues in a way that is impossible with traditional radiation techniques.

Infusion Center
The Infusion Center at Sonora Regional Medical Center offers a friendly and welcoming environment for individuals in need of infusion therapies. Our comfortable 10-bed unit offers healing to the body, mind and spirit. Our low nurse-to-patient ratio creates opportunity for supportive and encouraging relationships to develop during your time with us. We are committed to the comprehensive care provided by our onsite team, including an oncologist, educator, social worker and oncology nurses.

Our nurse educator is available to answer your questions by phone or in person. Our case manager helps to ensure continuity of care and access to all available services. The Center provides 24-hour call services to answer any after-hour questions.

Services offered include administration of chemotherapies, antibiotics, hydration, blood transfusions and immunotherapies. Injection administration and port and PICC maintenance are also available.

Tumor Board
The Tumor Board meets weekly and an overall plan of action for the individual patient is discussed. The Tumor Board includes the Cancer Center staff, chaplain, Hospice and Home Care staff.
