Sonora Golf ClassicGolf Classic

Spring is just around the corner and so is the 13th Annual Golf Classic. This year’s event is scheduled for June 10, 2009 at Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort in Angels Camp. Proceeds from the Golf Classic will fund Project HOPE, our twice-a-week, free health clinic at the Crossroads Shopping Center in Sonora.

The Golf Classic committee is rounding up sponsors and players to add to the success of the event and would love to have your help. Todd Kleinert of Cutler-Segerstrom Insurance is serving as event Chair and is joined by Committee Members Bill Brandt, Larry Jobe, Elizabeth Jones, Bob Laukat, Susie McEntire, Lisa Melville, Tom Nischwitz, Anne Pate, Darrell Slocum and Mark Steichen and Gail Witzlsteiner.

Early sponsors of the tournament are Cutler Segerstrom Insurance, Clarke Broadcasting Corp., Oak Valley Community Bank and Blue Mountain Minerals.

The 2008 Golf Classic raised more than $50,000 for Project HOPE and included 131 golfers and 65 sponsors, making it one of the Medical Center’s most successful tournaments.

If you would like to sponsor, play, donate and/or volunteer to work at the event, call Gail in the Development Office at 206.536.5029.

Many thanks to all of you who donated to, worked at or played in the 2008 Golf Classic.

Project HOPEProject HOPE

Project HOPE, an outreach program designed to increase access to care, is a FREE health clinic utilizing the Medical Center’s Healthvan. The Healthvan was purchased in 2007 through the generosity of Darren Lee Farwell Foundation and many community supporters of the Golf Classic.

Project HOPE (Health, Outreach, Prevention and Education) is available Mondays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm adjacent to the Sonora Wal-Mart.

Scott Perez, PA-C is the on board medical practitioner. Services include episodic care, physicals, check-ups, blood pressure checks, minor, non-invasive testing and prescription orders.

Joie de Vie GalaJoie de Vie Gala

Would you like to make a difference in the life of a cancer patient? You can! Support the Joie de Vie Gala and your gift, of any size, will assist cancer patients with their unmet financial needs. While the current economic crunch has been challenging, it has added an even greater burden to those who are too ill to work.

This, the 9th, now annual Joie de Vie Gala, includes a silent auction, dinner, entertainment and the presentation of the Irving Symons Award. New to Gala this year will be the elimination of the after-dinner musical entertainment. “We have found that our guests would prefer to get home a little earlier, as the Gala is on a Sunday night,” stated Gail Witzlsteiner, director of Development and Public Relations.

The 2009 Irving Symons Award will be presented to Joe Martin for his outstanding, long-term service to the community. Martin, a life-long, 2nd generation resident of Tuolumne County, was the owner of T-5 trucking and Joe Martin Logging. Martin served the community and our hospital for many years. He was a trustee for Sonora Elementary School and assisted with the construction of the Greenley Road campus; a member of TuCARE; the Tuolumne County Airport Commission; the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Posse; past-president of 49’er Rotary; a member of our Civic Advisory Board and the $2 million Campaign for Cancer and Cardiac Care Steering Committee; a Board member of El Capitan Bank and Sentinel Savings Bank; the Tuolumne County Taxpayer’s Association and the California Loggers Association.

The Irving Symons Award, named after the late Irving Symons, recognizes long-term, outstanding community service. Former recipients include Irving Symons, Frank Salel, H. Randolph Holder, Robert Cutler, Pete Kerns and Pete and Sue Kleinert.

Join us in paying tribute to a life of service while we raise funds to serve others. Make your contribution today by contacting the Development Office at 209.532.5029.
