When care can’t wait, count on the emergency services at Sonora Medical Center. Our emergency rooms are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and emergency care nurses. Our staff is specially trained to quickly assess your condition and provide expert care.

Expert care for all life-threatening emergencies

Our team is specifically trained and skilled in handling emergency situations and treating a wide range of serious conditions. Some of the common symptoms we assess and treat include:

  • Broken bones
  • Burns
  • Chest pain or other signs of a heart attack
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Head injuries
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Loss of or blurred vision
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Severe bleeding or trauma
  • Signs of a stroke

If you or a loved one is experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency or any of these symptoms, please call 911 and ask to be taken to our hospital.

When to seek urgent care

Urgent care is best for non-life-threatening conditions that still require timely treatment, such as:

When should I go to urgent care?

Visit an urgent care for urgent problems that aren’t life-threatening but still need attention, which may include: 

  • Coughs, colds and sore throat 
  • Sprains and strains 
  • Rashes or skin irritations 
  • Minor burns 
  • Ear infections and sinus infections 
  • Minor cuts and lacerations

That’s why we’re proud to have received Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians. Seniors who visit hospitals accredited by the American College of Emergency Physicians can be confident that they have enhanced staffing, education, and geriatric-focused policies and protocols to provide appropriate care and help get older patients back to their daily lives after an emergency occurs.

Certified by the Joint Commission for Stroke Care 

Sonora Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Acute Stroke Ready Hospital Certification. To achieve certification, Sonora Medical Center underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review by Joint Commission surveyors and demonstrated several advancements related to the care of stroke patients, including 24/7 neurology consultations, staff education, and accelerated imaging services.
