About our practice and process
Learn about the steps we take to provide you with the best care and support.
Your first visits and care plan
We know how back pain can limit your life and work, so we are committed to getting your first visit scheduled quicky. On your first visit, your doctor will ask you about your medical history and symptoms. Your doctor will examine your spine and, if necessary, order and review diagnostic studies, such as an X-ray, CT, or MRI scan.
Your doctor will then develop your personalized care plan. In some cases, conservative treatments, such as medication and therapy, are initiated first. If conservative treatments do not provide marked relief, your physician will help you decide if surgery is right for you.
Surgical treatments
Should you require surgery, you can rest assured that you are in the best hands with our board-certified, experienced spine surgeons. As a Blue Distinction® Center for spine surgery, we are nationally recognized for providing the highest standards of care. By using the latest minimally-invasive procedures, we minimize the time you are under anesthesia, lessen the risk of infection, and speed up your recovery. Whether you need reconstructive surgery, disc replacement, laminectomy, or any other procedure, we have the right team and technology to ensure a positive outcome.
Non-surgical treatments
Many patients with back and neck pain benefit from a combination of non-surgical treatments. Our physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists are skilled in providing a range of procedures including epidural steroid injections, diagnostic nerve blocks, radiofrequency nerve ablations, facet joint, and sacroiliac injections, and more.
Patient education and support
For surgical patients, our orthopedic nurse navigator provides a pre-operative class where you can learn about your role in the surgery process. In addition, several departments at Sonora Medical Center including surgery, nursing, and rehabilitation have collaborated to develop a comprehensive education and support program. This includes manuals to guide you through every aspect of your procedure, from a pre-surgery checklist and what to expect at the hospital to preparing your home for recovery and specific exercises that will help you achieve your best results.
